Professor Rana Mitter comments on Chinas reaction to Nobel Peace Prize

Rana Mitter was interviewed on BBC Radio 4s The World Tonight on Friday 19th November about concerns over China boycotting the Nobel Peace Prize in response to the award being given to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo.


Rana was asked what could be inferred from Chinas reaction. He commented that China is trying to strike a balance between two stances: being a reasonable and responsible world player, and not being pushed around anymore. He also added that there isnt just One Voice in China but, because of the lack of transparency in the Chinese media, those undercurrents are not always obvious.
