Professor Ngaire Woods debates the IMF stabilisation efforts

Date

Ngaire Woods debated with Douglas Carswell MP on BBC Radio 4's 'Today' programme (21 January) regarding the announcement by the International Monetary Fund that it will seek to increase its resources by $500 billion to help stabilise the global economy, and will be seeking contributions from countries around the world to achieve this.

Ngaire said, This is not just about the eurozone; the IMF is very worried about the way the eurozone crisis is beginning to impact all countries across the system. She argued against the assertion that the IMF is simply pushing austerity, and warned that Britain is casting itself at sea if it does not contribute to the IMF.
