Professor Michael Freeden awarded PSAs Sir Isaiah Berlin Prize for Lifetime Contribution to Political Studies 2012

Congratulations to Michael Freeden, Emeritus Professor of Politics, who has been awarded this years Sir Isaiah Berlin Prize for Lifetime Contribution to Political Studies by the Political Studies Association.

In awarding the prize, the judges noted that [h]is work has had a significant and wide-ranging impact on political studies, notably within political theory. Over the course of a long and distinguished career, Freeden has done more than any other contemporary to help us understand ideology in general, and liberalism in particular. Professor Freedens long and distinguished career includes launching DPIRs innovative Centre for Political Ideologies, as well as serving as the founding Editor of Journal of Political Ideologies, which today stands as one of the leading political theory journals. His research on liberalism, including the monographs The New Liberalism: An Ideology of Social Reform and Liberalism Divided: A Study of British Political Thought 1914-1939, helped advance our understanding of ideology and politics.
