Professor Gwendolyn Sasse writes on whether Ukraine is a 'lost cause'

Gwendolyn Sasse has responded to the question posed by Judy Dempsey on the Carnegie Europe blog (24 February): 'Is Ukraine a Lost Cause?'

Gwendolyn replied that the question "implies a fatalistic attitude that Europe cannot afford. The consequences of a failed Ukrainian state would be more costly than efforts to rethink and step up targeted assistance aimed at strengthening democratic state structures."

In a further article on the same website (2 March) entitled 'To Be or Not to Be? Ukraine’s Minsk Process', she writes: "The situation now requires rethinking without losing the political will of the key actors behind the agreement."
