Oxford top of The Times league table and top in Politics

Oxford University remains the top institution in The Times Good University Guide, published in association with The Times newspaper. Oxford has also scored top in Politics, receiving a score of 100.


Oxford University remains the top institution in The Times Good University Guide, having been at the head of this table for the last eight years.

The University scores the top marks overall for staffing levels, degree classifications and spending on student facilities, such as libraries.

(St Andrews was second with 97.9 points; Sheffield third with 92.7, and Cambridge fourth, with 92.1). The eight criteria looked at by the Good University Guide include student satisfaction; the ratio of staff to students; services and facilities spend; entry standards and graduate prospects.

Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, Dr John Hood, said: `I`m pleased that Oxford continues to be seen as the top university in the Times` guide. This is the third university guide this year to put Oxford at the head of their overall league table and the eighth year Oxford has held number one position in the Good University Guide. This continuing success is down to the commitment of staff and students across the whole collegiate University.`
