Maria Repnikova comments on Chinese policies toward historical memory

Maria Repnikova, a DPhil Candidate in Politics, was quoted in an AFP article (5 August) on Chinas efforts to erase the traces of disgraced politician Bo Xilai.

As Bos trial approaches, the Chinese government is removing references to him from cultural institutions such as the Dalian Modern Museum. While these efforts may appear strange to outsiders, Maria notes that, Theres this idea [in China] of getting rid of everything, the person and the accomplishments While it might appear disturbing to many observers, if you look at other historic events it seems like this method has been used in the past.
