Livia Schubiger to join DPIR as Associate Professor in International Relations

Date

The Department is delighted to announce that Livia Schubiger will join the team in July 2022 as Associate Professor of International Relations and a member of Nuffield college.

Livia is currently the Douglas and Ellen Lowey Assistant Professor of Political Science at Duke University, where she is a faculty member of the Department of Political Science and the DevLab@Duke.

Prior to joining Duke, she was an Assistant Professor at the London School of Economics (Department of Government) for three years. She was also a post-doctoral researcher at the UZH-ETH Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS), and a pre-doctoral visiting fellow at the Program on Order, Conflict, and Violence at Yale University.

Livia’s research examines dynamics of violence, governance, and mobilization, often in the context of armed conflict, state repression, and organized crime. She is currently working on several projects that explore institutions and norms related to wartime and/or gender-based violence.

Her research has been funded by institutions such as the US National Science Foundation, the National Institutes for Health, and Innovations for Poverty Action. It has received several awards including the MPSA Best Paper by Emerging Scholar Award and the Prize for Excellence in Applied Development Research (Young Researcher Category).

I am incredibly excited about joining the inspiring academic community at Nuffield and the DPIR, and about meeting the many talented students that join Oxford every year from all over the world.
I look forward to many productive collaborations with my new colleagues.
