John Lloyd on Rupert Murdochs new Sunday paper
John Lloyd, director of the Reuters institute for the study of journalism at Oxford University, was quoted in The Sydney Morning Herald (February 25) on the news that The Sun tabloid would produce a new Sunday edition.
John said, I think its an attempt to raise morale, possibly his own as much as anybody elses. He may be giving two fingers to the family and the board and saying, I love newspapers and this is what we are going to do.
The article goes on to analyse morale problems in News Corp and looks at the extent to which the new Sunday edition of The Sun will be able to replace the recently-closed News of the World.
