John Lloyd on getting away from the Arab Street
John Lloyd has written a new article for Reuters (19 November) on the evolving politics of the Middle East.
John argues that we must look beyond simplistic ideas of a populist and Islamist Arab Street that is ready to be roused to violence, and better understand the complex realities in Middle Eastern societies today, where young peoples worlds are formed by a steadily increasing tension between modernity and transition, family and the wider world, community and individualism.
