Harry Verhoeven comments on crisis in Sudan

Harry Verhoeven, a DPhil candidate at Oxford University, was quoted in a Reuters article (30 March) on the resumption of talks between Sudan and South Sudan after clashes in the disputed border region.


Harry noted that radicals in Sudan may have pushed the government to seek limited military confrontation in the south. He said the (...) regime has been very divided for the past 18 months between different camps, and one of them believes...that confrontation is the right way to deal with Juba.

The article discusses the chances of the upcoming talks and the possibility to avoid war.

In another artice in Reuters (16 April, 2012), Harry comments on the possibility of a war of attrition in which both sides wait for the other to crumble internally or run out of the funds and fuel needed to wage war.
