Dr Sudhir Hazareesingh writes on the ‘Strong and Stable’ leadership of French President Macron

Sudhir Hazareesingh has written an article for the Times Literary Supplement (20 June), contrasting the recent fortunes of recent French election winner Emmanuel Macron with the recent British election winner, Theresa May.

Sudhir writes, “One month in, the contours of Macron’s grand projet are coming into sharper focus. Its appeal lies in the new President’s remarkable capacity to tap into old French myths of purification, regeneration and unity, and to embody the contrasting facets of Frenchness: Left and Right, Parisian elitism and provincial modesty, republican patriotism and European internationalism, hierarchical order and populist transgression, possessive individualism and humanist solidarity, René Char’s lyricism and Michel Audiard’s slang.”
