Dr Stewart Wood made a peer

Date

Congratulations to Dr Stewart Wood, who has been included in the list of 54 new members of the House of Lords, announced on Friday 19 November 2010.

The New Statesman in particular has focused on Stewarts role in the shadow cabinet in the light of his new position, saying he will take on an expanded and more visible role within the party. He will now attend shadow cabinet and will act as shadow minister without portfolio, shadowing Sayeeda Warsi. Wood, who previously served as Gordon Browns foreign affairs adviser, is also expected to work closely with Cabinet Office minister Liam Byrne on Labours policy review. Labour Lists Mark Ferguson reports that he will lead Milibands intellectual work and the development of his long-term political agenda. The size and scope of Woods responsibilities will see him take on an almost Mandelson-like role as Milibands chief consigliere. The full article can be read here.

The list of 54 members also includes Michael Grade, Oona King, Julian Fellowes and Joan Bakewell.
