Dr Stephen Fisher comments on tactical voting and voter turnout at the General Election

Date

Stephen Fisher wrote an article for BBC News, on tactical voting, estimating that “up to 9% of voters mark their ballot papers tactically, influencing the results of up to 45 seats”.

Dr Stephen Fisher also contributed an article on weather and the predicted turnout for the election to The Oxford Mail : “We have looked at 16 General Elections and there is not enough evidence from the pattern of the turnout and the weather on election day to suggest that the weather makes a difference.”

Stephen will participate in a Seminar and Roundtable on the campaign, election and outcome of the UK General Election. This will take place on Monday 10 May in the Manor Road Lecture theatre. Participants will include David Butler, Raymond Duch, Geoffrey Evans, Stephen Fisher, Helen Margetts, and Iain McLean.
