Dr Scott Blinder in The Financial Times on immigration
Scott Blinder was quoted in The Financial Times (2 November) on the loss of the right of UK education providers to underwrite student visas for people from outside the European Union.
Scott said that to reach the governments goal to cut net migration to under 100,000 reductions of more than 80,000...to net student migration were needed. He continued, the action announced today may contribute to that objective in a limited way, but not by enough to make a significant dent in it.

Scott was also quoted in The Financial Times (16 November) on proposals by the Migration Advisory Committee to increase the minimum salary threshold for a UK resident bringing their partner into the country.
Scott said that while raising the salary threshold would have a substantial impact on the family migration route, this represented only a small component of non-EU immigration to the UK, at about 20 per cent. Other measures would also be needed if the government is to reduce net migration to the tens of thousands, he said.
