Dr Scott Blinder discusses immigration and employment link in the UK

Date

Dr Scott Blinder of the Migration Observatory at Oxford discusses two new reports on immigration with Bill Buckley of BBC Radio Berkshire (10/01/2012).

The two reports come to different conclusions. The first one from the Migration Advisory Committee, concludes that there were 23 fewer UK jobs for every additional 100 migrants from outside the EU. The other one from the National Institute of Economic and Social Research said that immigration has had little or no impact on the number of unemployed

However, regarding EU migration the two studies agree that there is no impact.

While it is too early to say which report is right, Scott noted that the new focus away from GDP and towards the impact of migration on the countrys residents may already be a new and positive development.
