Dr Scott Blinder comments on what the 2011 Census tells us about immigration

Date

Scott Blinder has been offering comment in various media in response to the first release on 17 July of data from the 2011 Census, Population and Household Estimates for England and Wales. The larger-than-expected population figure has been attributed to a rise in immigration over the last decade, and Scott was asked what the implications might be for UK immigration policy.

Scott was interviewed by Sky News on 16 July about what the increase in population shown in the 2011 census means and whether it is possible to agree how big the UK population should be.

He was interviewed again by Radio Berkshire the following day, in which he discussed what the census means for local authorities with a large migrant population, focussing on Slough.

The Migration Observatory has also been quoted frequently in the last few days, by The Guardian, BBC News and the Huffington Post on July 16, and by The Telegraph on July 19.
