Dr Scot Peterson explains why Theresa May can’t just call a general election

Scot Peterson has written an article for the Guardian (25 October) about the current difficulties that prevent the Prime Minister from calling a snap election.

Scot writes, “In recent weeks many people have behaved as though Theresa May has discretion to call a general election at any time. Apparently it is very easy to forget about obscure constitutional rules such as the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act, which the coalition government passed in 2011.”
