Dr Sarmila Bose is appointed Senior Research Fellow in the Politics of South Asia

Dr Sarmila Bose, founding Director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ), has been appointed as a Senior Research Fellow in the Politics of South Asia in the Department of Politics and International Relations.

Dr Bose takes up her new position from 28 April 2008. Dr Bose’s new duties include research, supervision and the teaching of both undergraduate and graduate students. She will also represent the department on the Management Committee of the India Business Centre in Oxford University’s Saїd Business School. Dr Bose has given up her role as Director of the Institute, but has been appointed as a member of the Institute’s Advisory Board. (She will continue to co-convene the Institute’s seminar series and advise journalist fellows in Trinity term).

Professor Neil MacFarlane, Head of the Department of Politics and International Relations, said: ‘We have been interested for some time in enhancing our capacity in South Asian politics and we are grateful that Dr Bose will take on this new role, given her vast academic expertise in this area.’

Dr Bose said: ‘I am very much looking forward to developing the study of South Asia at a time when Oxford University’s efforts in this direction are starting to gain momentum.’
