Dr S. Bose is member of Research Team which receives Australian Research Councils Discovery award

Date

The research team of which Dr Sarmila Bose is a member has just been awarded Aus$ 430,000 over three years by the Australian Research Council under its Discovery programme for the project `Global Youth and Media - Notions of Cosmopolitanism in the Global Public Space`.

This international comparative study will research the mediated experience and expectations of globalization among 14-17 year olds, the most highly networked generation to date, in 12 countries - including India. The project, which has the assistance of UNESCO, will generate new quantitative and qualitative data and its analysis will provide insights into the changing forms of national and global citizenship, and of regional identities in a global public space. The research team is led by Prof. Ingrid Volkmer of the University of Melbourne. The proposed start date is January 2009. The project will hold three workshops, one of them in Oxford.

Sarmila Bose is Senior Research Fellow in the Politics of South Asia, Department of Politics and International Relations.
