Patricia Thornton was quoted in the New York Times (24 September) in an article entitled 'Cultural Revolution Shaped Xi Jinping, From Schoolboy to Survivor'.
In the article she talks about the violence that President Xi Jinping's family suffered as a result of the violence of the Cultural Revolution, but says, "Xi got to see both sides of that time, which is one reason I think he's such an interesting character, but that's also why he's so difficult to read."
