Dr Matthew Walton leads growing links between Oxford and Myanmar

Matthew Walton, Aung San Suu Kyi Senior Research Fellow in Modern Burmese Studies at St Anthony's College, and Associate Member of DPIR was referenced in a recent article in Times Higher Education, which discussed growing links between the University of Oxford and universities in Myanmar.


Matthew's research focuses on religion and politics in Southeast Asia, with a special emphasis on Myanmar. You can read more about his work here. His current research includes a John Fell Fund-supported research project on Comparative Buddhist Politics in the Theravada World

 

The department is currently fundraising with St Antony's college for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Political Education in Myanmar. This post would help develop Modern Burmese Studies at the University of Oxford, and would enable the postholder to work with colleagues in Myanmar on curriculum development and in creating Burmese language materials for use in the classroom.
