Dr Marc Stears appointed new director of the CPI

Date

Dr Marc Stears has been the director of the CPI since the beginning of Trinity Term 2011. He will continue in this post until the start of Michaelmas Term 2011. Dr Stears has been a member of the CPI since 2002.

Mark will succeed Professor Michael Freeden, Director of the CPI since its inception in 2002. Professor Freeden is stepping down from this post due to his retirement at the end of September 2011, although he is still keen to continue to participate in CPI activities. We thank Professor Freeden for his enormous contributions to the CPI and to the Department.

Dr Marc Stears is a University Lecturer in Political Theory and Fellow of University College; he specializes in the politics of social reform, examining, in particular, the ways in which ideologies of reform mutate in distinctive political environments. He is also a Visiting Fellow of the Institute for Public Policy Research (www.ippr.org) where he researches the ideological and organizational development of left political parties in Britain.
