Dr Keith Stanski publishes new volume Orientalism and War

Date

Keith Stanski, an DPIR alumnus in International Relations, has released a new book Orientalism and War (Hurst 2012), co-edited with Dr Tarak Barkawi of the University of Cambridge's Centre for Science and Policy.

The papers in the edited volume explore the relations and dimensions between Orientalism and war, including the representation of Self and Other, how violent conflict is productive of Orientalist identities, and in turn how Orientalism is productive of war by defining identities which require a West to bring order to an unstable East.

The book is the result of a conference hosted by the Department of International Relations and Nuffield College in 2010. It is available for purchase from Amazon here.
