Dr Jonathan Leader Maynard interviewed on Foreign Secretary's recent speech on terrorism

Date

Jonathan Leader Maynard was interviewed on BBC Radio Oxford (10 March) to discuss a speech given by Philip Hammond to the Royal United Services Institute, in which the Foreign Secretary praised the intelligence services and criticsed terrorism 'apologists'.

When asked by presenter David Prever why the Foreign Secretary might have made such comments, Jonathan said "I think, as is so often the case, this is not really about defending the intelligence services themselves.  It's more about the way in which politicians feel the need to respond when our attention, when media attention, when public attention is captured, as it has been very successfully, by someone like Mohammed Emwazi."
