Dr Hussam Hussein named one of Stanford’s ‘changemakers’ for sustainable development work in Jordan

DPIR Research Associate Dr Hussam Hussein has been named one of this year’s 40 changemakers at the Stanford Sustainability Summit for his work on sustainable development and water policies in Jordan.

The two-day inaugural summit was held at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and united heads of nonprofits, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and policymakers from around the world, to debate various issues - from land use and agriculture, to climate and greenhouse gas removal.

Hussam’s work centres around tackling water scarcity in Jordan by developing sustainable solutions and providing a better understanding of the political economy within the water sector, to ensure communities have reliable and sustainable access to clean water.

He also engages in water diplomacy to facilitate cooperation and conflict resolution over shared water resources.

Commenting on his accolade, he said:

"I am very honoured to be recognised as one of the 40 changemakers in sustainability by Stanford University.

This acknowledgment is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collective efforts of everyone working towards a more sustainable future.

It reaffirms my commitment to addressing water scarcity in Jordan and integrating social science perspectives into natural resources management.

I am inspired to continue this vital work and collaborate with others to drive meaningful change.”
