Dr Harry Verhoeven on the collapse of the ceasefire in South Sudan

Date

Harry Verhoeven gave an interview to Radio France Internationale (21 January) about why it seemed neither party in the current South Sudan conflict is seriously commited to a ceasefire.

Harry said, "The reality, unfortunately, is that both sides very much believe in a military victory, and so they very much have the sense 'Why would we settle for 50% now if we, you know, with a bit of luck, could take 100% next week or in two weeks from now?'"

With the collapse of the ceasefire and what appears to be intervention from Ugandan forces, Harry was interviewed again by RFI, which can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/radiofranceinternationale/harry-verhoeven-on-south-sudan
