Congratulations to Dr Gwendolyn Sasse who has been awarded a grant from the Economic and Social Research Council for her project, External Actors in Conflict Management in the Post-Soviet Spacefor the period 1 October 2011 to 31 March 2012.
Gwen will use her grant to host an international workshop to assess the role of external actors in areas of ethnic, political or religious strife in the post-Soviet space. Two key questions will be addressed which have remained underexplored to date: first, the variation in the conflict dynamics and outcomes across the Former Soviet Union (FSU) and the role of external actors as an explanatory factor accounting for this variation, and secondly, the linkages between external and domestic actors in the conflict zones and the linkages between different external actors.
