DPhil student Ishrat Hossain presents research to Duchess of Sussex

Date

Ishrat Hossain, currently studying a DPhil in International Relations at DPIR, presented her work to HRH The Duchess of Sussex at an Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) event last month.

The Duchess attended the ACU networking event in London on 31 January 2019, her first as Patron of the Association. Academics and students from across the Commonwealth attended, including Ms Hossain who discussed her research on the transnational dynamics of violence on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border with the Duchess.

Ms Hossain is a Commonwealth PhD Scholar and her research interests focus on South and South East Asia, investigating violence in borderlands areas. She is interested in communal violence, particularly between Buddhist and Muslim peoples in South Asia. As part of the ACU's Peace and Reconciliation Network, she met with researchers from around the world to discuss the legacy of conflict and how to effectively reconcile groups.

The Association of Commonwealth Universities brings together over 500 institutions from more than 50 countries.
