David Hall, a doctoral candidate in Politics at Oxford University, published an interview and critical analysis of Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman on the psychology of decision making at the New Zealand Listener (January 21, 2012).
David analyzes Kahnemans work focusing especially on his last book Thinking, Fast and Slow.
David sees Kahnemans contribution first and foremost on upending the myth of rational decision making in economics. For David, this convenient fiction has been used by economists to develop policies that produce the best possible outcomes for creatures such as these. The question these days is: do these policies also produce favourable outcomes for creatures such as us?
The article goes on to consider the merits of Kahnemans work on judgment, its empirical applications and its potential drawbacks.
