Dapo Akande comments on possible extradition for former Chadian president Hissene Habre

Date

Dapo Akande was quoted on the Reuters website (USA) in an article about whether a court in the Hague will oblige Senegal to allow the extradition of former Chadian president Hissene Habre on charges of killing and torturing political opponants.

Belgium sued Senegal at the International Court of Justice in 2009, saying the torture convention, which Senegal signed, meant it must either prosecute Habre itself or extradite him.

Dapo said, "It could have implications for peace agreements... They have very little wiggle room under the torture convention."
