Corentin Cohen awarded Marie Curie Fellowship

Former OxPo Postdoctoral Fellow (2019) Corentin Cohen is set to start in the Department as a Marie Curie European Fellow in Michaelmas Term. Joining DPIR from the CERI and the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), he will work to understand the political sociology of financial flows in Brazil and Subsaharan Africa.

His time at DPIR as OxPo Postdoctoral Fellow—engaging with research of the African and Latin American Centres and his discussions with Ricardo Soares de Oliveira—have, he says, helped nurture and inspire this research project.

Corentin is interested in understanding how global economic structures and networks produce opportunities for politicians across the world, particularly in Latin American or African states.

He said: “I am thrilled to be awarded this Fellowship and by the opportunity that it offers to commit to an ambitious program of work.

"Despite the current political moment, it is clear that research is always about bringing different people and perspective together, and as Marie Slodowska Curie’s trajectory shows, it is not relevant to think about ideas in term of nationality.”

Corentin enrolled for a PhD at Sciences Po and the CERI in Paris and his dissertation focused on a political sociology of violence in West Africa and Brazil, looking at the role of pictures and narratives in international politics.
