Aung San Suu Kyi to receive honorary doctorate from Oxford

Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, an alumna of politics at Oxford, is to receive an honorary doctorate from Oxford University.


The degree, awarded by the university in April 1993, will be presented at the annual Encaenia ceremony, during Daw Suu's trip to the UK next week.

Daw Suu read philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) at St Hugh's College, Oxford, between 1964 and 1967 before returning to Burma in 1989, where she was soon placed under house arrest for the next 20 years.
