Join us and our distinguished speakers for a panel discussion on how economic diplomacy is conducted in the 21st century! We will cover how and why China expanded its economic influence to rival US-led institutions; how partner countries on the African continent assess their economic cooperation with either superpower to date; and how the shifting geopolitical landscape redistributes bargaining power and impacts countries’ aims vis-à-vis economic diplomacy, including on the question of political values. We will leave ample time for our audience to engage with speakers in an open Q&A afterwards.

Speakers: Dr. Alex Vines OBE (Chatham House, Head of Africa Programme and Research Director of Regions and Risk), Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Umeonyirihoa (Organization of African Academic Doctors, Sino-African Relationship Expert), and Hannah Grupp (World Bank, Analyst at the Office of the Chief Economist, Africa Region). Moderator: Nicolas Lippolis (University of Oxford, DPhil Candidate in Politics, Co-convenor of the China-Africa Network).
