We are delighted to invite you to our sixth event of Michaelmas 2022, which will take place on Tuesday, November 15, in the Old Library at All Souls College at 8:30pm. As always, there will be a wine reception prior to the event, starting at 8pm. The speaker will be former Senior Editor of the Economist Edward Lucas, who will be speaking to us on ‘The New Cold War: Winners and Losers’.

Edward Lucas is a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA). Formerly a Senior Editor at The Economist, Edward Lucas has covered Central and Eastern European affairs since 1986, writing, broadcasting, and speaking on the politics, economics, and security of the region. A graduate of the London School of Economics and long-serving foreign correspondent in Berlin, Vienna, Moscow and the Baltic states, he is an internationally recognised expert on espionage, subversion, the use and abuse of history, energy security and information warfare. Edward Lucas is also the author of five books: The New Cold War (2008, revised and republished in 2014); Deception (2011); The Snowden Operation (2014); Cyberphobia (2015), and Spycraft Rebooted: How Technology is Changing Espionage (2018).

Main access to the Old Library is via a steep staircase. Arrangements can be made for those with limited mobility to use a stairlift and a Fellow’s room to gain access. Please let us know as soon as possible if you require this type of assistance. Capacity is limited so please arrive early.

We will be hosting a dinner with the speaker before the event. The dinner is at 18:15 at Quod, 92-94 High St. If you would like to ballot for a spot, please email secretary@oussg.uk by Sunday evening.

Those selected will receive an email the following day. Please note that dinner attendees are required to pay for their own meals.

A £2 fee for attendance is kindly requested for all non-members of OUSSG. If you need to renew your membership, you can do so on our website or at the door. The event can also be found on our Facebook page.
