This talk is the first in DPIR's new 'Alumni Career Conversations' series, providing an opportunity for the DPIR community—current students, alumni and academics—to connect with a panel of DPIR alumni, learn about their career stories and benefit from their experience and advice. It will feature alumni speakers at varying stages of their careers and across a range of fields. Each speaker will speak about their career to date; after their short introductions, the panel will discuss and respond to questions from the meeting participants.
The first session in the series will focus on careers in 'International Organisations and Think Tanks' and will take place virtually via Zoom Meetings, on Wednesday 3 November, 13:00-14:00 GMT. The talk will be chaired and moderated by our Joint Head of Department, Nicholas Owen.
Our confirmed speakers are all alumni of the DPhil in International Relations; however, the talk is open to all interested DPIR students and alumni.

Richard Ponzio - Director of the Global Governance, Justice & Security Program and a Senior Fellow at The Stimson Center. Richard Ponzio has held a variety of senior positions at The Hague Institute for Global Justice (where he directed the Albright-Gambari Commission), the U.S. Department of State and the United Nations. He also serves on the board of the Academic Council on the UN System (ACUNS), and with ACUNS he recently launched the Global Governance Innovation Network.
Frances Z. Brown - Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and co-director of Carnegie’s Democracy, Conflict, and Governance Program, who previously worked at the White House, USAID, and in non-governmental organizations. In her last role before leaving government, Brown served as director for democracy and fragile states on the White House National Security Council (NSC) staff.
David Malone - Rector of the United Nations University and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. David Malone formerly served as President of Canada’s International Development Research Centre, and as Canada’s Representative to the UN Economic and Social Council and as Ambassador to the United Nations.
